Program Descriptions

01

Foundations

The Foundations program focuses on teaching the essential skills of grappling that work seamlessly in both gi and no-gi training. Students will learn how to safely and effectively take their opponent to the ground with takedowns, establish and maintain control through strong pinning techniques, and escape from bad positions. The class also emphasizes submission defense, helping students recognize and counter submission attempts like chokes and joint locks, as well as building a strong foundation in executing upper-body submissions.

02

"Class" Format

At Profectus Jiu-Jitsu, our classes follow a structured format designed to maximize learning and skill development. Each session begins with a skill-based warm-up, focusing on movements and drills that directly relate to the techniques of the day. Following the warm-up, a certified Profectus instructor provides detailed instruction on key techniques, ensuring students understand the concepts and mechanics behind them. The class concludes with live training in the specific position or scenario covered, allowing students to apply their skills in a realistic and controlled environment.

03

"Practice" Format

Practices consist of 100% live training and use a dynamic, hands-on approach to help students learn and adapt through real-world scenarios. Practices start with a skill-based warm-up to prepare the body and reinforce key movements. The main focus is on games and drills designed around specific positions and situations, with live resistance to make the training realistic. This approach encourages creativity, problem-solving, and skill growth in a way that directly applies to real grappling.

04

"Coaching" Sessions

Profectus Jiu-Jitsu coaching sessions are semi-private, small group experiences designed to help athletes accelerate their progress and optimize performance. Led by a skilled coach, these sessions focus on questions and discussions based on the practice that just concluded. Coaches provide detailed answers and observations from the session, offering personalized feedback to refine techniques and strategies.

This place is my home away from home. Great people and environment for learning. If you are considering a trial class or a new gym to call home, come see us.

Cameron H.

I had been training Jiu-Jitsu for a year on and off before joining Profectus Nashville. This is by far the best gym I've ever trained at. Top tier instruction with great teammates.

Roland F.

Such an amazing group of people here. I just recently started Jiu-Jitsu and was intimidated being a woman in an unfamiliar sport. Professor Jeremy and the others welcomed me with open arms and made it a safe place to grow.

Common Questions

Is jiu-jitsu good for complete beginners?

Absolutely. Most of our students started with zero experience. Our Foundations program is specifically designed for people brand new to grappling — no prior martial arts background required.

What should I wear for my first class?

Just wear athletic clothing — shorts and a t-shirt work fine. We'll provide everything else you need for your first visit.

Do you have classes for women?

Yes. We have a strong and growing women's program at Profectus Nashville. Several of our coaches specifically work with female athletes at all skill levels.

Do you offer no-gi training?
